… clever design tips from a professional curtain maker to help you furnish your home luxuriously, without blowing the budget
Smart Tip #1
Spend where it counts
Fallen in love with an expensive fabric? Use it for Roman blinds which don’t need much fabric. Curtains can look still look stunning in simpler, more affordable fabrics.
Smart Tip #2
Cost‑savvy options
Machine‑made curtains cost less than hand‑sewn
Inverted Pleat Curtains use less fabric than other styles - and look stunning!
Thicker fabrics probably don’t need interlining - so cost less to make up and no additional cost for the extra layer of fabric
A good quality blackout lining gives window furnishings more weight and a look of quality
Smart Tip #3
Think outside of the box
Duvet covers, vintage linens, remnants - can be transformed into beautiful window dressings. We don’t mind what we make your furnishings with, we just ask that they are thoroughly washed or dry cleaned first.
Check out eBay or ask me about my Remnants Collection! Lots of different designer fabrics for a fraction of the price.
Smart Tip #4
Buy once, buy well
Classic designs and timeless poles don’t date, whereas the latest designs which can tend to age sooner
Buy quality head rails and poles to avoid breakages - your should outlive your soft furnishings and be useable for the next set
Smart Tip #5
Let me do the measuring
Especially in older, wonderfully wonky Suffolk homes!
I don’t charge for home visits and it saves you paying for things twice if you get it wrong
Smart Tip #6
Let your artwork and accessories do the talking
Keep windows neutral in a cost effective plain fabric and add pattern with cushions, pictures, rugs etc. Then when you fancy a change you can just change your accessories
Smart Tip #7
Blackout lining = savings on heating too!
More than just light block. Blackout lining insulates heat in the same way it deflects the sunlight plus it blocks draughts. And I don’t charge any more for blackout than I do sateen lining
Smart Tip #8
Prefer to spread the cost?
At Alchemy Home Furnishings we offer a facility to Buy Now, Pay Later
Smart Tip #9
